Default Fuel economy

I own a 2005 Ford F 250 Super Duty Crew Cab short box 6.0l PSD, auto transmission. Purchaced new and just turned 102,000 miles. Recently, had the computer recalibrated because of hard cold starting and that solved the hard starting, but still was not running well. I changed the fuel filter, and the EGR valve. Truck is running beter but the fuel economy is stll about 14 MPG on the highway and less than eleven MPG in town. I have my snow tires on and 600 pounds of traction sand and GVW is at 8500 lbs. I added an Airaid in box air filter. Because winter is coming on, I use a cetain booster and 10W-30 Motorcraft Syn motor oil.
This a great truck and we pull a 9800lb fifth wheel. Tried a Edge economy chip but didn't really help as the suggested speed for best MPG is 65 MPH ( that is what Edge says ?) and that is too slow for freeway speeds.
I really don't want to change the exhast system as it is in good condition, plus it seems like throwing good money after something that MIGHT work.
I am at the point of thinking it might be time to get rid of the diesel and get a V-10.
Any ideas? Has anyone had a V-10 and got the diesel ?
Thanks for reading, Happy Thanksgiving!

Stay away from the V-10, my dad used to have a V-10 excursion, horrible milage and wouldnt pull worth a lick. We pulled a 24ft enclosed trailer to virgina with it and probably got 5 or 6 mpg. He now has a 6.0L excursion with intake and the bullydog programmer and it made a world of difference, shifts alot better and alot more power. Also a free flowing exhaust would help out alot, your muffler and cat might be clogged up.
