New Guy From IDAHO . . . . .
Hi,
Well, I have been here for a while now and have not been very active here. We will see if we can't change that a little bit!!
I'm an Id native and have been here all along except for when I wasn't... During the time I was gone I basically went up and down the east coast from Maine to Florida. You know those 'decal' maps where you fill in the states you have been to? I only have about a dozen missing. It would be nice to go out there and finish in that map! Someday I will!
This past year I went back to college as a 'non-traditionally' aged student for a little diesel education. I have a pretty good job that I have in about 18 years so I guess I won't be leaving to become a diesel mechanic any time soon. That was a really hard thing to do but I'm actually really glad I did it! I learned a lot of basic trouble shooting and other useful skills. I'm still assimilating the info from this last year of college. I may be for a while yet.
I have an '06 MegaCab that I thoroughly enjoy! It is just about the perfect vehicle. I have been battling a low power and low mileage complaint since I bought it. I am still hopeful to be able to find the problem and fix it. It would be nice to have it running up to it's ability. Most of the things I have done to it are for durability or protection. One of my favorite sayings is: "It's my casket" . . . (This was recently 'corrected' for me. I guess my will is actually going to be thrown out and I just get a simple pine box. But, I guess I won't know and won't care at that point anyway..). I also have some other projects. One of them is a '73 Int'l Crew Cab. I have owned it for years now and I have decided it should join the diesel club. I have a '90 12V, a set of 3.07 geared axles, a NP205 T-Case, and an '03 NV5600 6 spd trans that I'm currently attempting to install in her. So far I have the whole front clip off, the old gas engine and transmission out, and the old axle completely off. If I can determine how much engine compartment I need for everything I can proceed with making up engine mounts and all the other details of getting that wonderful engine in there and running! I am really excited about it all except for the fact that is it in my back yard in the dirt and weather waiting on me to put it all together.
Other than that, I'm just a normal guy. I like to help others with problems or figuring things out. I will try to share any info or knowledge I might have if you need it. I bought my first diesel Dec '04. Since then I have tried to learn all I can about them. I am amazed at how much there is to know. I really have a lot more to learn. But, that gives us something to look forward to each day! In this day and age of the internet and all we seem to be doing the old adage of 'Learning something new everyday' just doesn't seem to cut it anymore. We learn lots of new things each and every day!!
If any of you are bored and near Twin; come on over and we will have a party! Kind of like a 'barn raising' of old. If there were enough of us, we could have that Int'l up and running again in no time at all!!
