Default fuel gauge

I have a 2005 cummins and the other day my fuel gauge just all of a sudden quit. I am going to be pulling my trailer in a couple of weeks but I don't know if everything else will be fine. Everything else seems to be working properly but I don't want to be stranded. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

check the connections on top of the tank, should be able to reach up an feel them. That is if it is stock. See if it is corroded or loose. I would check that first before you take it to a shop.

I filled the truck up today and the gauge read 3/4 full. I don't know how but it is off by a 1/4 tank. does anyone know if it is a float in the tank?
