Howdy From Yuma, AZ
Hello All,
I stumbled upon this site looking for info to get more power from my nearly bone-stock (the drivetrain is nearly stock) 1997 Dodge Ram Cummins 3500 4X4. I was planning on ordering a TST Power Kit tomorrow and after reading some of the posts it seems I'd better do some more homework before I do; if I do.
The only mods to the drivetrain thus far are a K&N air filter element and a slightly deeper cast aluminum transmission pan (adds 2 qts more fluid). It's got about 125,000 miles on it and I've owned the truck about nine years. I do my own work on it and I've maintained it well and expect to be using it for many years to come. I pull a fifth wheel travel trailer with it on occasion and it could use some help in the area of power.
Mods I am planning on are gauges (pyro, boost, trans temp), larger exhaust (4 inch ? turbo back), a good aftermarket air cleaner and mods/tweaking the fuel system (torque plate, AFC, governor?, increase turbo boost) and whatever else it may need to handle the higher power). Nothing too radical, just more power so when I do haul my 5th wheel I can go up a grade at more than 35 MPH.
Anyhow, I think I'm glad to be here and hope I'll be of some help as well.
Thanks

The biggest problem with you wanting to up your power is gonna be your transmission...if you got 125k on the original even in stock trim your doing good especially towing...a good converter and valve body will help it 10x...you got the right ideas though guages first then fuel mods, 4 in turbo back will open that thing fine, turbo boost will increase with fueling mods and pump tweaks...there will be alot more guys on here to help you out during the day on east coast so just be patient and hang out and keep doing your own searching...
