Default New member with tach. problem

I have a '01' Dodge 5.9 liter with a tach. that quits working after I start, and drive it a short distance. The tach. starts working again after being driven for a few miles, and works until the next time I restart the engine. The check engine light came on. I have a code read of P1693. Any sugestions on the trouble shoot and repair? Will this hurt the engine in any way? I would like to take it into the mountains and go camping next weekend.

i believe 1693 is just a companion code...i had this problem with my truck but it got so bad that it started to make it lose pedal...the code it got was for the Crank Position Sensor its behind the starter and about $60 bucks at autozone...the o ring on mine was rusted to the block and was a straight up bitch to get out...thats what fixed mine

i believe that an 01 has a cam position sensor, not a crank position sensor

Gabriel, you need to scan the truck with an OBDII scanner - the key on/off trick doesnt work.

In the future, please post tech questions in the correct Dodge Forum. Thanks.
