cetane ratings????
I am curious if anyone else thinks diesel pumps should carry cetane rating numbers like gas pumps must display octane ratings? Here in Washington state, Shell oil markets a "premium" diesel fuel, but no mention of it's cetane number. Does anyone know a way to learn the ratings on the fuels we purchase?
the reason they don't show the cetane ratings on the pumps is because when refining diesel it's really hard to make the same cetane rating everytime, i think the minimum by law is 38 and most of the stuff you'll get at the pump is probably around 42-48 i think, the only thing the premium diesel has over the regular diesel is the addative package which is probably not really worth it but i always use premium diesel when i can, but the nearest station around me that has it is 30 miles away, not worth the trip really
