Talking New Diesel Freak from PA!

Hey guys, I am new to the board and just wanted to say hello and thanks for having me. My current diesel is a 2006 Chevy 2500 HD 4X4 with the LLY Duramax and the Allison Tranny.

The above mentioned ride is my daily driver, so far it has an AFE stage 2 intake and a MBRP Turbo Back stack system. I plan on leaving this rig mainly stock, however I am in the process of planning a project that will be my toy. I hope the site can give me lots of good ideas as well as input from the members as to how I can make the most out of the project I am building.

The plan for what I want to create was formed between my father and I. We decided it would be awesome to build a Cummins powered 1 ton van. I plan to take the project to the extreme, stripping the van down to the bare frame and going from there.

Has anyone ever heard of this type of build being done before? We just think it would be really cool to do something different that you never see. Plus the van will have tons of room inside to do all kinds of cool custom stuff, such as mounting a fuel cell, etc, etc, etc.

I plan to make the van a crazy offroad rig. I want to have the frame boxed in to strengthen it, to handle the power I plan to get out of the Cummins. I want to go with 2.5 Ton Rockwells for the axles but I am not sure if it would be possible to keep the rig street legal and use the Rockwells. If it can be done, it is my hope that I can work with some experienced people and find a way to do it.

Anyway, that is what I am working on, any and all input would be greatly appreciated guys. And again, hello, I look forward to making some diesel crazed friends here on the board.

Sounds like an interesting project. Might want to make friends with whoever it is in your area from DOT. They will be able to give you all the info you need to keep it street legal.
