I have the factory build sheet, the original owner still had it in the truck and seriously it has the 6.5 listed as a Duramax, like I said, I am no expert and will take your word for it but I was listing information about the truck off of the factory build sheet.

I am confused about your statement that 6.5 isn't a Duramax? I am no diesel expert, newbie actually, but it has got Duramax listed in the build sheet as a 6.5.

I really aint sure how to respond here.. I am pretty sure GM didnt even use the DURAMAX name till 2001..

Im gonna do some research..

is there any way that you might be able to scan that in and attach it up here for reference purposes? not calling you out i am just intrigued now as i too thought the 6.5's weren't Duramax's......

It certainly appears you are right. This is what I have found. I apolgize for my ignorance and now unsure if the previous owner didn't manufacture this build sheet himself.
The GM light-truck 6.2L and 6.5L diesel engines were optional in the 1982-2000 C/K series pickup trucks, and in the Suburban, Chevy Tahoe & Blazer, GMC Yukon & Jimmy, vans, and motor homes (RV) - in both turbo diesel (TD) and naturally aspirated (NA) versions. In addition, low cost and ready availability have made these engines extremely popular the world over for diesel conversion projects; powering Land Rovers, Land Cruisers, and a host of other foreign and domestic production vehicles.
The 6.2L saw its final year of production in 1993. While the 6.5 was replaced by the Duramax 6600 beginning in the 2001 model year Chevy and GMC vehicle production, the 6.5L diesel engine continues to be manufactured and sold by AM General. AM General is the manufacturer of the civilian H1 Hummer & military HMMWV.
The Diesel Page - for the 6.2L, 6.5L, and Duramax 6600 (6.6L) GM Chevrolet and GMC diesel engines.
