Default newbie here from pa!!! diesel=interesting

Ok lets start with this ,thanks for letting me join and I will try to search all my questions before asking as i see some don't do that. I have a 2008 gmc with a 5.3 and was using it to tow my 24 ft enclosed race trailer ( I race micro sprints). While my truck was out for inspection i borrowed a friends 2000 dodge 2500 diesel, well that was all it took and just had to have one!! So after looking around for several months and was very shocked to find a 98.5 to 02 Cummins that had a **** ton of mileage and half rotted out selling for 10 G and up and just couldn't see spending that on something that I wasn't impressed by but I kept looking. So what I found and purchased was a good solid clean 2001 2500 sport with 200,000 on it and was stock with no upgrades but a 5in exhaust and A k&n factory filter upgrade. The guy was straight up front and said it had issues and me being very mechanically handy I figured how bad could it get !!! I wheeled and dealed with this gentleman and purchased the truck for $4000.00 and knew it needed help,so the problem it had was when you put it in reverse or drive it would shut off but didn't lunge like a locked converter,5 psi fuel pressure and would stay in 3rd gear unless manualy shifted and had a 2nd gear slip.I hooked it up to my snap on scanner and found it had the death code for timing control module, apps, low voltage to ecm.I put a reman H.O vp44 in it,adjusted the bands in trans and had to put an apps in it and also i replaced a stock lift pump. Now all is well and the truck runs great other then today I tried the 4x4 and it worked but didn't want to unlock so that will be getting looked at here relatively soon. all in all I don't think I made a bad deal and will post pics when I can, Thanks for reading Greg
