Hello!
I finally found a decent toy hauler~ 1993 W350 12v Cummins dual with 130k on the clock, auto tranny.
Had lots of plans but life always finds a way... to get in the way. For now she is staying stock until I finish all the repair/service for what is already there. Currently the daily driver with about 18mpg or so on the road. Banks air filter, had a 6" stack I swapped for a 4" downpipe out the back, p.o. might have turned up the fuel pin but I cant tell.
I wanted to join up because I had questions about what the PO might have boogerd up under the hood, and how to keep the thing running for another 100k miles. This forum seems to have a lot of knowledgeable folks so it looks like a good place to spend some time.
First things I need to address:
Finding a spare wheel- cant find dually wheels anywhere nearby but I hear the 2nd gen works if you drill them out 1/16". Would probably be ok for the spare.
Dropping my hitch about 6"- It is a class 4/5 hitch with a 2" ball/pintle combo on a flat plate below the bumper with a 16,000lb rating sticker- but no tube to use a tube style drop hitch/ball. Not that you would want to possibly as it would reduce the rating of the hitch due to angle. My 16' flatbed car hauler just about drags the ground in the back on a flat surface because the nose is up so high. If it is too much of an issue I will just get a welding shop to raise the nose of the trailer, but that would also likely make it unusable to many of my tiny v-8 friends.
Lights and wiring- the PO had a camper shell on there and some odd powered trailer things running from the battery. Somehow this resulted in the running lights shorting out, though the trailer lights at the hitch plug still work fine. I found some information about the light switch itself needing a relay to keep from burning up, and found that this mod had already been done but a little... shady. I fixed it and the running lights worked for a whole 2 days before mysteriously burning out after about an hours drive with them on. Plugs and fuses are fine so I am suspecting a ground wire somewhere.... but any advice would be appreciated.
Hope to see you all around! Let me know if I need to post something somewhere else, or if you have any advice for preventative maintenance for a first time 1st gen owner.
Thanks.

Thanks!
I found this how-to: KDP Tab install step by step * with pics *
Let me know if I am off on that site. Seems like a simple weekend job and pretty important too. I will add it to the list.
