Default Hello from West Virginia

Hello, I'm a Marine currently Stationed at Fort Lee Virginia. But sadly my truck is back home in West Virginia.

My truck is a 1996 2500 12 valve, So far the only things done to it are a built auto trans, torque converter lockup, new front drive shaft, egt and boost gauges. I'm very sure the injectors have been replaced by the looks of them. However I have no idea what they are, all I know is that they are big and the fuel is turned up on the truck. Right now so it doesn't just sit it's at my parents house and they take it out every so often.

I have bought a 4" exhaust which I Painted with ceramic flat black paint and have a polished stainless 5" tip for it as well. I'm planning on installing it on thanksgiving when I come in on a E96.

The only problem with the truck is when I lay in on it the EGTs climb radically it's not burning all the fuel its getting. My father had called me from home once saying he was getting on the interstate and a jeep tired crowding him out. He stomped it and passed the jeep, when he looked in the rear view mirror he had saw the cars behind him pulling off to the side including the jeep.

Welcome welcome!
Black smoke has died as being cool, with the epa cracking down we are trying to keep it clean! With a 12v it is a big harder, but some proper tuning and you will be happy with the results!

Let us know when you need some help

I never bought it for the black smoke. I bought it for the 12 valve and the body was in good condition. It runs way too hot for my taste I want to burn that extra fuel that's its dumping. I don't really pay for anything right now since I live in the barracks. So I just save up to get the items that I want. This is my first 5.9 I've had a 7.3 before that I've messed with a bit so I'm not completely in the dark.

welcome to db
Thank you for your service
It sounds like the sticks are to big right now. We may need to turn the timing back down for right now until the egt"s are under control.
Is the exhaust and intake stock still? If it is, then that will have to be dealt with to help with the egt's.

The exhaust and intake on the truck was really hodgepodge together when I had got the truck. The intake filter was too small and the exhaust went 3.5 to 4 back to 3.5 again with some ugly *** welds. So I bought the largest filter I could find in town. It's abit larger than a napa 6637 filter. I also bought a 4in straight pipe exhaust. Since I've been here I had my father put the filter on and my friend tried taking the exhaust off and it wouldn't come off he tried heating it with a torch and nothing. My father is taking it to an exhaust shop this week to get it put on.

How much would it cost for all the gear needed to time the engine.
