Default Up-N-Over From South Carolina

Hi All,

It was suggested that maybe I should drop in here and introduce myself. My name is Robert. I run the engineering department for a company that produces gas control systems for furnaces, boilers, water heaters and fireplaces, and also makes CNG and Propane conversion systems for automobiles. I've been married to my one and only wife for almost 22 years and we have a 17 year old daughter and a 14 year old son. I'm 43 years old and I've been driving diesel pickups now for about ten years. I am somewhat of a diesel fanatic.

I started off with a '99 Ford Super Duty with the 7.3 PSd and then moved to an '03 Super Duty with the 6.0PSD. I now have a 2006 Silverado with the Duramax LBZ/Allison combo(Long story). I never thought that I would say it, but I am happier with my Chevrolet than I ever was with my Fords.

I have just purchased a Cummins 4BTA turbo diesel engine for my rock buggy project. Following are the specs for my COYOMOG truggy:
  • 1980 Toyota Pickup with tube frame and exoskeleton
  • Cummins 4BTA turbo diesel engine
  • 700R4 automatic overdrive transmission (heavily modified to survive the torque)
  • STaK 3-speed transfer case with 5.44:1, 3.05:1, and 1:1 gear ratios
  • Unimog 416 disc brake portal axles with 6.52:1 gears and factory air lockers
  • 3-link front suspension with fully hydraulic steering
  • 4-link rear suspension
  • 46-19.50X20 Mickey Thompson Baja Claw bias ply tires
  • The minimum clearance under the axles will be 21". The minimum clearance under the transfer case will be 30", and the maximum height of the vehicle will be 84".

The frame and exo are built and I am now in parts gathering mode. I will have all of the main parts by the end of April and should have a drivable rig by September.
