Well, Im the new guy.Im not new to diesels or trucks but new to the diesel truck.I drove Mercedes diesels for years and made my own fuels of different sorts.I also have had many 4x4 trucks and trail vehicles.Ive lived in four of Americas mountain ranges and worked off and on as a mechanic when I was younger.Im now a farmer or, plan to be.I recently bought farmland in Middle Tennessee.I am from Memphis originally and have lived in MS,FL,CO,WY,MT,NC,AL,AR and passed through pretty much everywhere else.I travel alot as a musician its just part of my life.I bought an 85 Suburban 6.2 diesel for my farmtruck/grocery wagon.I immediately got to work making it not-so-soccer dad.I have a decent sized creek crossing on my property and the stock intake was rotted out so I killed two birds there and built a snorkel its almost too low budget to call a snorkel so its more of a cold air intake on my cowl....I added two inch lift blocks in the back which didnt really jack my pinion angle then,I made some two inch shackles for the front and added 2° pinion shims.I chopped the stock mufflers and swapped in some Thrush Turbos to open up the flow a little.I cant stand seeing my truck rusting from the weather which the roof was so I sanded it all real good and rhino lined the roof to keep it from rusting anymore which I liked so much I went ahead and covered the rest of the truck as well.So now that Ive done all the stuff I would normally do to my truck Im here because I dont know much about the Detroit 6.2.I have read alot of places that I shoukd turn up the injector pump for power and I know where it is but have yet to mess with it.I have alot of questions about this engine so anyone with knowledge please share! I am aware that I can add the 6.5 head and or turbo as well but I dont plan to spend that on my farm/family wagon however,the wife and little girl love it so much(and I do too) that we have just been driving it everyday as its much more spacious than our toyota gets equal to or better gas mileage,I make my own fuel so Im paying a buck or so per gallon,we feel safer in that beast ove our plastic feeling toyotas and lets be honest its pretty bad ***.My wife loves driving it which is awesome because she wont even drive my work truck.So I am here to learn more about diesel modding and maybe even offer any knowledge I may have on other subjects
