Default MPG

Hey guys I'm new to the diesel world and to this site. I'm sure the MPG issues have all been addressed but here goes. I have an 01 Dodge with a cummins, I added a quadzilla adrenaline and my fuel mileage did not improve any, whats up with that? On max mileage or the 1 settings. I thought it would at least give me some increase, oh I have the 4" exhaust. Is there something I can do to increase this? I see some of you guys claiming over 20 mpg.

There are a lot of different things that can play into mileage. What are you seeing currently for mileage? What gears? Tires?

I got 23 mpg on my way to arizona and 22 on my way back to colorado. With no mods except what I have listed. If you drive in the city alot then you will never see 20 mpg, if you drive highway all the time you will see 20 mpg. I generally get 17-18 mpg out here where I live and when I was in az I got 15 mpg. I have 3.55 or 3.75 gears if you have 4.10s then its gonna be difficult to get 20 mpg. Along with if you drive over 65 mph you will lose fuel milage. The desirable RPM for MPG is 1800 rpm.

I get about 16 mpg currently, I'm not sure what gears I have, my tires are 285/75/16. Is there a simple way I can find out what gears I have? Do the Sport 4x4's come with differant gears?

IF its a sport its most likely the smaller gears, way you can tell is when you get to 65 mpg and your at 2200 rpm you have 4.10's. But as for milage in the city that sounds bout right.

At 65mph I'm running about 1800rpm and the 16mpg is on a 2000 mile road trip so thats hwy mileage.

Thanks Tony.

ok you have the smaller set of gears. Now here is my next question how many miles do you have on your truck. My experience with poor fuel milage is because you need to perform valve lash. It is a simple procedure, cost 80 bucks at the dealers but if you have feeler guages, an allen set, some metric wrenches and a torque wrench Ill give ya the sheet with the instructions.

My truck has 250000 miles. I have the tools and mechanical knowledge so if you would please send me the instructions sheet and thanks so much.
