I found a 96 cummins for sale for $4500. It has 350, xxx miles on the body and 150,xxx on the motor. It is extended cab with a solid body besides a few dents and dings. The 12 valve has no fuel plate and the timing has been bumped up to *18. The drive shaft is broke so that leads me to think its had a rough life... What do you think? Should I buy it?

 

It sounds like it has had a hard life. You should get more info on the truck as to what caused the drive line to break.

 

I'm still considering buying the truck. The guy who is selling the truck said that he pulled it, but he only pulled it once and the drive shaft broke. I'm skeptical of buying it, but regardless of how many times it has or hasn't been pulled, it's still in really good shape.

 

350k miles on the body is a lot of miles first off, the miles on the motor isnt bad (if thats the actual mileage). but id be skeptical if hes saying hes pulled with the truck (i assume you mean pulled a sled)?

but yea always be careful, most of these things have hard lifes just because thats what they were made for, but some are abused also. you never really know sometimes though

 

I ended up deciding not to buy the truck. Besides the mechanical issues it apparently had a lien on it unbeknownst to me. So, my gut told me not to get it. Since I'm not getting that truck, does anybody have a 12 valve 4x4 5 speed cummins for sale for about $5000. I would prefer 2nd gen but 1st gen is okay if it's intercooled.

 

Whats wrong with it having a lien?

 

The guy said that he had borrowed money against it from a loan company. I had no way of knowing if 4500 was all he had borrowed against it. And the title wasnt clean.

 

Guy dosn't pay his bills and bank comes and takes your truck

 

my truck had a lien on it. i went with the guy and paid out the lien and went home with the truck

dont see what the problem is if you go pay it off
