Default Oil Grade And Weight

What's recommended in an 8V92 Detroit? Some odd reason they're running 15-40.

30 weight sounds about right, though I'd think 15w40 ought to work alright. What's it in, btw?

On the two cycle Detroit engines they recommend a straight weight oil not a mutli-grade. For most part the 2 cycles will shear a mult-weight oil to tar...

See section 2.2

Should meet CF-2, IIRC Delvac 15w40 is the only multi-weight approved for CF-2 rating. Personally if I had a Detroit two cycle I would only run a monoweight oil.

Doesn't seem like they make it a year before they have issues with them.

Yeah, if they're shearing all their lube oil I'd imagine they wouldn't last long. Probably just using what's readily available on the shelf, or what they have on hand for more modern equipment. Here's hoping for better luck with the propper oil.

I saw plenty of 6V and 8V series in the military. We used 15w40, didn't have any engine failures. Used 15w40 in everything, there is a reason it is refered to as fleet oil.

I mean diesel is what it is made for.
