I think for several reasons i like the LBZ over any other Generation of DURAMAX. LBZ was the last model with out a DPF, it has the same compression as the LMM, it only runs 5 less HP than the LMM, tons of mods for it. All the bugs are worked out (even an eng as great as the duramax has bugs) the LML puts out 397 HP but its fuel system runs about 4000 more psi than the LBZ, but its all good cause a LBZ in perfect condition only costs 30k vs a LML with similar features costing 50k+. Over all, i think that as time goes on, yes my oppinion will change, but being the tight wad that i am, i think my next DMAX won't be a LMM or LML, but an LBZ.

I agree, if I could do it all over again I would have bought an older truck with some miles on it.

Oh new, news, just found out the Latest mod LLY is identical to the LBZ minus the tune, which apparently is only a 20 HP difference. I like the look of that model (exterior and interior) and from the experience i have with the LLY i love it. i don't know if the Late model LLY has the 6 speed allison in it, but i do know for a fact the LBZ has the 6 speed, which is a great trans but, me i have a 04.5 LLY and i knwo i got stuck with the 5 speed alli.

I am a big fan of the 04.5-05 LLY
and the 06-07 LBZ
Last years Diesel Power Challenge winner was a 2001 LBZ

They all have their inherent faults, and the Dmax is not cheap. With the right tuning, and performance parts you could go along way on just the small changes.

Early 06 lly's are LBZ motors just detuned. You could only get the 6 spd allison in the 06 detuned lly/lbz. You gain better rods and blocks with the lbz and 6 SPd but also get the crappy pistons that come with them.

Thanks for contributing! This Forum needs more Duramax information! It might keep the Cummins people in check!
