ATTN Need Advice From The Chevy Guys

I have a good friend that wants to buy a Duramax for a towing vehicle. He will be towing between 10,000 and 15,000 pound trailers. He wants to buy used. I would like any advice about the pros and cons of the different year models between 03 and 08 to help us narrow down what we are looking at.

Thanks in advance!!

I havent had a problem with mine as far as pulling, and i hauled alot with it. The only issue I had was the injectors, but since those were replaced it runs like a champ. Not sure on the other years, I only have exp. in the first gen Duramax. Im getting really good fuel mileage empty or loaded. Hope this helps, surely some other Dmax guys will chime in.

'06-07 with an LBZ is usually the best bet. All the bugs were worked out from the previous years and you don't have to worry about the DPF crap the '07.5 and up LMM's have.

Somewhat of a slow reply here, but I pull OFTEN with my 07 LBZ.. I love it. My 5th wheel camper weighs around 15k and I pull it with my 3/4 ton. No problems. I average around 14 mpg with it puling down I-40. The newer trucks with DPF's pull just fine too, but I would definately do away with it. Good Luck in your hunt!

I would say 06 and up because you'll get the six speed Ally, and a lil more juice if he is gonna leave it stock. But who does that anymore .
