Default How do Duramax compare to Cummins and Powerstoke ?

I'm new to this whole diesel seen....... What years are the best years for Duramax ? How durable are Duramax and how long do they last ( like how many miles on average before they need a rebuild ) ? How do they match up against Cummins and Powerstrokes ?

Lots of threads that cover this. It all really comes down to what you want out of your truck. LBZs IMO are the best those are the 06 and early 07s. Other then leaking Trans lines they have no real issues. I think for a stock truck Dmax wins several guys have gone over 500K with little to no problems.

Ya, what Dozerboy said. '06-07 is the most trouble free and pre-ultra-mega-emissons-crap.

If you treat it right, you'll never have to rebuild it. I have 3 LB7 Duramax's ('01-'03) with over 200k on the odo and the engine, tranny and diffs are all origional.

All brands have their pluses and minuses. With the 7 Duamaxes in my fleet, non have ever had any major work done to them. On the same hand, I do have one '02 7.3l Powerstroke in my fleet with 270k without any problems either.

Just do your research and go drive a few to get a feel for them.

Drive them all buy the one you like, I would recommend getting one before the DPF became part of the package.

What it comes down to is personal preference, some like Ford , Dodge or Chevrolet, for me it's Chevrolet. Albeit I will admit Ford makes the best interior of any truck (King Ranch especially).

I like them all and this time went with the Duramax. Fords at work ride to rough for my taste and didnt find a CR cummins like I wanted. My truck has 270 on it with factory everything. Its all about how they are taken care of that makes a truck.
