I'm also looking for some info about the diamond eye down pipe. I have a 5" cat back that I'm going to add the cat delete pipe to. I tow a toyhauler and am looking to lower my EGT's also. Would the new down pipe be worth the money?

 

I got mine because I saw someone elses and saw the flow advantages over the stock downpipe. I like the EGT's I'm at right now but the burning smell worries me. I put my truck in the air yesterday and took a look at everything. No leaks anywhere from the downpipe back, but the downpipe is very very close and almost touching the bulkhead (firewall) insulation. I'm suspecting that's where the burning smell is coming from. Sustaining 1200+* for a long period of time while towing might be a bit too much for that area back there. I'm going to call Diamondeye about it and get their input.

I haven't called Diamondeye yet, but I did get a good look at everything the otherday. I think what has happened is the downpipe is touching the bulkhead insulation and causing a slight burn. The insulation is nicked due to all the times I removed the stock downpipe to do some other things. I'm going to build a shield to push back the insulation and pertect it from the new downpipe.

I'll take pics and do a 'show and tell' if my theory works.

 

 

the smell is normal. it will go away. it is the heat wrap heating up and burning on to the pipe. mine did this for a few days it will go away. and yes it can withstand 1200* to 1400* no problem. the pipe was not just designed for race aplicatons. it was made to lower egts in any application. and you will see about a 200* drop in egt's
