Very helpful since I was flying blind on this project. It was great to have pictures as well. Definitely learned some things about my Duramax. Thanks again.

If you have turned wrenches before it's a very simple job to do. I've done a few now and can be done rather fast now.

the biggest issue with the project is finding a damn 36mm 12 point socket. the rest is fairly simple

I use a 1 7/16" socket. I think that's it atleast. It's in it's own box.

Question locking the flywheel

In the process of romiving the harmonic balancer and I have my starter off in order to lock the flywheel using the "half inch extension method" suggested by others here. But I just don't see an apprpriately sized hole on the flywheel in which to stick the extension. I have rotated the flywheel and see some very large holes and also some small threaded holes. Anybody could point me in the right direction?

use the big hole to stick the extension in backwards and you need someone to help you turn the engine while the extension is seated correctly.

success!, piece of cake. Also I highly recommend a piece of 1" x 4 ft. galvanized plumbing pipe from Home Depot to use as a breaker bar extension.
perfect size to fit over 3/4 inch breaker bar and plenty strong for the job. I'm a 150 lb. weakling and I just leaned on the passenger side fender and pulled on the pipe and the hb bolt slowly loosened.
Thanks
