Default EGT On The Duramax

I'm used to everyone spouting 1250* is the maximum temp for the Cummins so what does everyone say about the Duramax?

Do you stick with 1250* or does it like to run a bit hotter?

Do you go off of what your pyro says or do add a couple hundred degrees to account for the air going through the CAC? (i.e. 1250* is max but you are OK with 1450* at the pyro because the CAC drops it 200*)

Most will say 1350-1380 max, others will say lower. Completely stock, mine will run 1320-80 pulling uphill around here.

New numbers soon to come...

This should be interesting.

I've also heard that you have to be careful with rapid heating/cooling cycles on the Duramax because of the aluminum heads. If you spike your EGTs then let them drop rapidly you can blow a HG. Anyone know if there is truth to this?

I just pulled my 5ver from Poteau, OK to Erick, OK around 450 miles the way i went.. and the last 175 miles were into a very strong head wind .. (typical western Oklahoma) and my EGT's stayed right around 1300.. I was told 1250 about 2 weeks ago when i got these gauges, but I just cant see that being all I should run.. I mean even when I put the bully dog on stock tune it runs up to 1450 or 1500.. When I pulled the camper out here on this trip I was using the Tow tune on my bully dog.. Camper and truck together weighs about 300 pounds shy of 20,000. Im kinda thinkin about getting a 1 - ton next time for the lower gears..
