I recently purchased a 2005 Silverado HD 2500 Duramax. It has only 56000 miles on it and has run perfectly for the 6 months I've owned it until last week. I was running low on fuel and stopped to fill up. After the fill up I started it and before I could exit the parking lot it just died. I attempted to start it a few times but had no luck so contacted AAA. The tow truck driver primered it and I again tried to start it. This time it started but started knocking real loudly and blowing out tons of white smoke. We tried 3 or 4 times, gave up and I had it towed to my house thinking it was a bad fuel filter so I installed a new one, primered it and started it. It seemed to be a little better but then it started all over again with the smoke and knocking. I just bought a scanning tool that gave a code of P1093, went online and found there were a few things it could be, the most popular answer was some kind of shim. Last week I called an independent mechanic that was referred to me, explained my dilemma. He told me he'd check it out and get back to me which he did. He said it was the injectors and or injector pump and the injectors would run about 600.00 each, the injector pump 900.00, his cost on both and the total bill could run as high as 10,000.00! Does this sound right to you?
