when did gm ever use a six speed manual all ive ever seen are 5 speed and those are few and far between

 

I believe the last 2 years that you could get a manual had a 6 spd available.

 

I think the 6speed was avalible from 2001.5-2003.5.

 

i see those things would be an extreme rarity then. i never could figure out why GM rarely produced manual trannies

 

You got me on that one.GM should have produced them just for milage trucks if nothing else.There manual transmissioned trucks were no the greatest pullers in the world.That is why they are so rare.

 

GM sold the ZF6s 6speed manuals up until 06, but there where VERY few 06s.

 

so gm and ford ran the same man. trans??? because the zf6 is also what ford has ran since 99????

Well its kinda smart in a way i mean because auto trans vehicles retain their value longer. I didnt know this until i was lookin at two trucks about a month ago.... they were both 2006 Dodge Cummins and they were identical in every single way except the manual had 2000 fewer miles but other than that they were the same color everything except one was a manual and the other an auto and the auto had a higher price on it. I asked my boss and he told me that since autos are whats in demand 90% of the time they can charge more of a premium on them over the manual. Interesting.

Supposedly there were some changes that GM requested be done for their version of the ZF6 to make it easier to shift and transmit less vibration through the shifter. If they actually did, I don't know I do know that GM uses a dual mass flywheel as opposed to a single mass flywheel used on the Fords. The dual mass tends to have some problems as power levels are increased, but it does damper a lot of vibrations from the engine going through the drivetrain.
