Default 2006 duramax pump knock/smoking

truck was running great, then about a mile from home it started knocking and dumping black smoke. scan tool showed fuel pressure regulator was bad, truck has 290xxx miles so i swapped out the entire pump, still have the knock and dumping black smoke at idle, shut off teach injector with scanner but no difference made in smoking, any suggestions?
cant afford to throw money at it so any help would be appreciated

sure sounds like a sticking injector to me.

check the balance rates and see if any are way out. there may be more then one, shutting off one at a time may not do it. i had a similar issue once on my truck and had several injectors that got stuck. guessing some containment got pass the filter and jammed up some injectors.

i also had one stick open on me once and cleared it with bumping up the fuel pressure to max while idling for a few minutes. pulling the plug off of the pressure regulator on the CP3 will do this.

one other thing you can do if it is really bad is pull the glow plugs and the fuse to the FCIM (to keep it from turning on any injectors) and turn the engine over while watching the glow plug holes. the one(s) that fuel mist sprays out of are your bad ones.

Yes I have shut off injectors but for some reason the scanner freezes on number one, I will try and pull the plug to see if that works if bit will go with your other ideas, where is the most reasonable place to buy new injectors ?
Thanks much

Pulled the plug on the pump and now the noise/knock is gone but still smokes quite a bit, will try the glow plug trick tonight. Did try and disable injectors again after knock was gone but for some reason number one will freeze the screen and won't disable

Lincoln Diesel has always been my choice for injectors but there are some other good places too
