Default Ran gas in a Duramax

I found a 06 Duramax that I could pick up for somewhere around $1500 the kicker is they ran gas in it. They say the truck still runs but when it gets hot it smells like it is burning oil I have not had a chance to look at the truck yet. I am just simi familiar with the Duramax. My question is what would most likely be damaged when you cant tell the difference between a gas and diesel truck?

Most likely, your gonna need a new engine (around $10,000 installed from a GM dealership).

Yea thats kind of what I am thinking. Just didn't know if there was anything else besides a complete engine that could have been damaged. I don't think it would be to bad on the truck price wise because it is a crew cab long bed 4x4 I just don't know if I have the time for a complete engine.

I don't know about a whole new engine, but your definitely going to have to work on the fuel injection system. Mostly likely all the injectors and the CP3 need replaced. if not other things. At that point, It might be better to just put in a brand new engine. That's a cool 7-10k you'll have to tack on to your "deal".

Does the oil smell like gasoline? I'm betting the lower end is ok.(not there to see the truck so... grain a salt) Spend money on a new fuel system. Guess its a good time for an upgraded cp3 and some big injectors.

x2.

If they REALLY ran it on gasoline until it quit there will be damage. As Kazairl said, more than likely it will need injectors and CP3.

Yea they ran it on gas I don't think it ever quit but they did drive it on gas. I am afraid that it has sever engine damage. Worse than injectors and a pump or something along them lines. If thats the case I will probably pass on it not because I don't think its a decent deal but I just don't have the time to work on it right now with me working 7 days a week. Just thought I would throw it out there and see if anyone that knows more about them than me would have any ideas what most likely would have been hurt.

get a compression check done on it then and see how well the engine looks, but your injection system probably is shot, and injectors for lbz's arent cheap

I'm thinking there more than 1500 in just parts alone.

I'd ****** it up and part it out if nothing else...

id get it and find an CR 5.9L to stick in it. you could find one of thoise used cheaper then a Dmax im betting. now the swap would not be all that cheap. heck if you dont have emmissions drop a 12v on that thing that would be a cool truck
