Fuel Filters
Greetings from Western Nebraska...
I watch over a fleet of 06 and 07 duramax's we run a 500 mile circle from the home base hauling wholsale tires, longest run is 1,100 in a 2 day jaunt..
The k2500 have 30k up to 150k... We have been going through fuel filters left and right... We were putting them in ever other oil change (15,00 miles) but we are now down to every 5 to 10k My drivers carry a filter with them and it's kind of a pain to change out in the middle of Wyoming in the dark...
Local GM dealer has been little or no help doesn't mind zapping us 79.00 when he replaces them... We were using the blue OE type but just found some Baldwin so we will try them....
Droped the tank in the highest milage unit and found --- N0 --- junk...
(285.00 charge by the dealer thank you very much)
Fuel milage is poor in my estimation 6 to 12 depending on how we cruise and what we haul... remember trailer is empty 1/2 the time and it is wyoming at times and the tires touch the ground every once in a while..
any help or suggestions when be appriciated... We ran Fords and Dodges before and never had a problem..... changing those filters twice a year once in the fall and again in the spring, wheter they need them or not (40,000K)
In Sept we will start to use BG's product in the fuel for lubricity issues (just in case) views about this??

What do you mean by you are going through them left and right? Is the DIC telling you to change them or are you having a problem? On average you should get 15K before having to change one. BTW- the reason the DMax filters have to be changed so often is because they are dual pleated. They catch a lot more crap than the normal filter and require changing more often. A guy that knows what he is doing can change one in about 15 minutes and you can find them for $25.

Here is what happens on the filters... always happens when we are in cruising speed.. truck basicly shuts down no power top cruising speed is 20mph... untill we change filter..
If we are a way out of towns we have found that if you kick it out of the tow mode you can feather it up to 60 or so and go for a while untill it goes down and then we start over again... Yes my guys can change the filters in short order but when your putting them in every 5000 miles it gets to be a pain in the chebbie.. We buy fuel from reputable places and stay away from the cheep places... company buys the fuel so we try to use name brands... and lots of it...

thats what I was wonnerin ..........so if they are indeed fuel pressure related than the puter may be throwing ya into the safe mode on the IP
these Chebby still runnin the CP-3 injection pump????

This is the common problem with the DMax. When the filter starts getting plugged it will start loosing power but wont throw any codes until it almost dies. V-Man if you having to change the filters that often you are getting crappy fuel or have run biodiesel and it coated the tank. Biodiesel will create a thick film in the tank and when you run straight diesel it begins stripping it off and running it through the system. When biodiesel sets up it turns into a gelled up hydrocarbon which is bad for the engine. If your running biodiesel from the stations you will have to change filters like underware because of the dual pleated filters.
