Default 2006 LLY

My buddy is looking at a 06 Chevy dmax but it says it's an LLY, I thought all 06 were LBZ engines. Did they make LLY in 06 and what kind of problems did they have? Read on here the worst dmax's to buy were the 04 and 05 LLY so I'm wanting to know if he should hold out for the LBZ. Thanks

Actually the LLY is probably the best overall out of all of them. Once you fix the overheating problem, it's a monster.

And yes, they made an '06 LLY, which is a de-tuned LBZ.

What's the overheating problem, and how do you fix it? Thanks

Let's not open the overheat can-o-worms It's more than 5 years old now. If you have this problem and need THE fix, it's the Rad Mod V2 made by TxChristopher. There is many other 'helper' mods, only one fix.

Im just curious as to how the LLY is better than the LBZ?

2006 LLY was a limited production, and it shares little with the 04-05 LLY, it uses the same LBZ 16.8:1 pistions, 7 hole injectors, upgraded engine block, 26000psi rail pressure, improved glowplug setup as well as heater grid for faster cold startups, as well as the 6-speed allison.... the engine calibration is different than the LBZ, but a minor tune from a simple plug in tuner can change that

Actually it's the truck overall. I can compare because my boss has an '06 LBZ and I always see the differences. First, his doesn't get the fuel milage that mine does. Even with my truck having the bigger heavier tires, his has never hit 20 or 20+ MPG and mine can easily. I feel his does have more power and I do like the 6sp over the 5sp but it's not enough to justify the more complexity of the injector system. There is no carpet on the door panels. There is no adjustable side supports on the seats. It misses other little do-dads here and there that mine has and his doesn't, all for the same price or more.

Now, you can't go wrong with either a LLY or LBZ, you will be happy with either. LB7??? Those are for kids that can't afford anything better..... Danny
