you do have 37's and a 6 inch lift. it does kill mpg. but the dash isnt 100% accurate

Hey Edge33, you never said what your mileage is, just that it gets the same as the old Dodge. I'm looking for numbers over here....

Can anyone tell me how tires size changes the mileage? Obviously 37 + really knock the mpg down. How about with 285 tires? What is the difference between the 265 to the 285. Any difference in mpg?

--Sorry bout that, well last tank was 15 mpg but that was around town and I couldnt keep my foot out of it, new truck , also the dash said i was 16-17 MPG so it was off a little. Im turning 35's so anything smaller and the MPG should improve a bit. Haven't done any highway trips yet, only had the truck about a week, but I'll let ya know or Im sure someone will chime in.

Lets put it this way. Some get 18mpg and others may get 13mpg. Both be the same cab bed setup. use same fuel, be driven side side, roll off the assembly line right behind the other, and everything else the same. One will get better mileage than the other.

Now one starts adding programmers and one may do better on 40HP tune and the other may do better than the other on a 90HP tune. They can be exactly alike and differ so much. Never have figured out why.

If wanting 19mpg then better test drive it like an hour the way you plan to drive and see how it does. If it sucks bad then try a different truck.

Well said Tanc Crusher. I finally got a real answer. I was beginning to wonder if I was on the wrong sight? I don't understand why one truck will gets better or worse mileage then the other? I know that tires make a difference but what else? This truck has slightly bigger wheels and tires @ 285 70r 17 or 33" tires. On a run up and down hills for 20 miles or more it got an average 15.7 mpg. Mind you part of the trip it was as high as 21.

I did the same trip, same mph on my 3500 dodge with stock 265 70r 17 and got 18.3 overall.

My question is, does the larger tire account for 1 mile, 2 mile or ? on mpg. If I put the same tires on the dodge will I loose a mile or two. If so it will be close, then I'd buy the Duramax.

Thanks for your help in advance

when my truck was stock, highway i was gettin 20+ and now with intake, 4" downpipe exhaust, and the PPE programmer on level one im averaging like 23-24 mpg. Sometimes i think my fuel gauge is screwed up haha. And im drivin 70-75 mph at around 1700 rpm.

im getting anywhere from 19mpg driving nice on the highway, down to 12 foot in it, driving hard, hard accelerating, stock mostly, intake mod, straight piped no tune, if i drove nice, i could easily get 18mpg all the time, but i cant

#1 thing for better mileage is speed, keep it to 60-65mph and you will get good mileage no matter what, start going into the 70's and watch your fuel tank empty....

my dodge got 20+ with edge box on 100hp all the time, no matter what i did it would never go below 18...

I love my d-max, but i didnt buy it for fuel economy.... if i was looking for a fuel miser i would have bought a TDI jetta
