I am looking to buy a duramax. I have had Fords in the past. I have heard of people talking about the LBZ, LLY etc. style motors. What comes on which years and what is the best motor for the buck. I'm hoping to stay in the 2005-06 range if I can. What are people getting in mileage with these trucks?

If you're staying 05-06 then get an 06. The 06's have a 6 speed tranny and I don't think the 05's do. I could be wrong...

 

6 speed auto came out in 06.

they do have 6 speed manual 05's and some 06's but good luck finding them

 

What type of motor is in the 07 early and what mpg does it typically get?

 

01-04 (LB7)
04.5,05(LLY)
06,07(LBZ) Some of the early 06's were LLY, different from the 04.5-05 LLY. It is the same exact motor as the LBZ just different ecm Program from the factory. it is rated at less HP.
07.5 to present(LMM)

 

IMO I would go for the 07 Classic LBZ... I bought my truck an 07.5 Dmax LMM as a left over last fall. I was really looking for the classic LBZ...
But I am sure that if I found the classic I would have wished that I bought the 07.5!

 

07 classic lbz makes good power and a buddy is getting like 20ish with 4x4

The LBZ gets my vote, I get 20+ hiway,empty at 55mph.
