Default Limp mode is scary!!!....I think

Ok so my friends wanted to go for a ride in my truck at about 10pm. I picked up my first Friend...did a couple runs in the 90hp setting. Then met up with others at a gas station where I switched to 220hp setting. I went down a straight road and about 2 miles on the 220 setting going down hill at around 70mph I pushed down a little more a BOOOOM. The rpms sky rocket and check engine light comes on. Almost as if it down shifted 2 gears. I POO POOED a couple bricks, then find a drive way to turn around. I put in reverse...nothing. acting like its in N. But its in R.
Now my friend said that the blcok that shows u what gear your in was blinking over R. (Don't remember this). Anyways the people inside the house im at start turning on light and looking out.
Turn off truck,and on.
I try to go in reverse again. Nothing ....only revs. I POO POOED more bricks AND TINKLED IN MY SEAT A LITTLE thinking the driveshaft fell off.
(Stupid me) so I scan for codes and nothing. I switch back to the stock setting. It worked thank god.

Its been fine since then.
Was that limp mode? why didn't reverse working?

Ive never hit limp mode, but i've been told you have to turn the truck off, turn the key to run (not start), hit the pedal X amount of times to reset... Similar to the oil change light... I've never had to try it, but this is what i was told at the races last weekend...

I've also heard that limp drops you down to 3rd gear or something like that...but as i've said, i have no experience with this cause if mine breaks, i'm out of a ride...

When driving it hard, you have to let off of it before it shifts from high to low gear. However it should have worked in reverse, in the past I have always turned truck off, let it sit 20 seconds and off I went. Once you limp it, you might as well upgrade because it is going to happen all of the time.

Oh yeah, nice choice of words, poo pooed and tinkled. I like that,

It could of been a safety switch from the computer to engine/tranny where it didn't like the sudden "steroids"...one step at the time!

Was your battery light on? Because my truck did something similar to yours, I was driving up hill and I heard and felt a big boom and it felt like I lost power and my rpms went up and it was like I was stuck in one gear, so I pulled over and I had no rev and the brick around it was lit up and when I put it in drive it would grind I thought it was my trans but, this might sound dumb but it was my alternator because your trans needs 12 or 12.5 amps the computer to shift and I was driving at night and all the lights on my truck were taking all the amps required for the truck to run right. Hope this helps.

You limped the tranny man... NEVER Run on the 220hp setting again! If you continue to do that you'll be buying a new transmission. Stock, that tranny can take a +75hp FWHP tune safely. If you go above that you're in the danger zone and you will have to be extremely careful.

Thanks for that info. I will keep that in mind. I always thought it was 90HP that it could handle?
