Default Smoking and skipping

I know a guy with a 2002 chevy 2500 and he had some work done to the engine (supposedly two new heads cause the old ones cracked and a new set of injectors) but that is just hearing through the grap vine. Anyway he brought it to me to see if I could fix it and what it is doing is smoking extremly bad and it has a skip. Smoking so bad that you cant even see the car parked beside it after about 15 sec. or so. He told me that the guy that worked on it before said he could crack one of the fuel lines and it would clear up...idk I have not tried that but I just want to know if anybody has had this problem or knows what it could possibly be. My thought right now is that if it is getting to much fuel maybe it could be a fuel pressure reg. or something? What do you guys thank?

I would start by logging rail pressure and balance rates on the injectors. See what they say and go from there.
