Question Injector help please

Ok, so its obvious that my injector 8 is going out. I keep having cylinder 8 misfires at idle (P0308). Last time I went to Harley to get a reflash he noticed that injector 8 was requiring more fuel than the others. This was before I would have the check engine light on. It has only progressed since then. So I was thinkin about just changing that one injector instead of all 8 (because lack of money/job). Im afraid of dong myself because lets admit I'm no mechanic and I afraid of messing up the injector cup and/or getting the injector dirty while installing.

My point is, whats a good price for having someone changing the injector for me? Cause I really don't feel like being screwed over on price. So what kind of numbers am I looking for?

Yea, ive been told to go ahead and replace all 8. I would love to, but I REALLY dont have the money to replace all 8. So I been shot down to just replace the one thats causing the trouble.

I have a 2002 Chevy Duramax, it needs all 8 injectors replaced. Where can you get new injectors at a bargain price? Have they made any improvements in the design so they will last longer? My truck runs great except it smokes when the oil pan gets too full. I have to change the oil every 600 miles thats every week. It's dumping about 1/2 Qt. of diesel into the oil every day that it is driven. So I can't afford to drive it. What would it take to install a 12valve cummins to the Allison 1000?

I just had this exact thing done on my truck. P0303, misfiring, balance rates showed only #3 was failing, all others were in spec, so like you I opted to just do the one and take my chances. If it comes down to it I'll do the remaining 7 should something else develop. Hopefully by that time I'll either have the money for it or have sold the truck.

I also don't have any gearhead friends or a garage to work in and leave my truck sit, so for me I didn't really have much of an option other than paying someone to do it for me.

All-in this is what I paid: $1700 with tax including oil/filter, fuel filter change (they told me after they HAD to do all that stuff, otherwise you can do it yourself to save), one injector @ $395 + 6.5hrs labour. Without fuel filter/oil change it would have been probably $1500 with tax. This was done at a reputable local shop, prices might be slightly lower where you are due to the fact that I'm in Canada and everything costs more here.

Labour anywhere for one bank is 6-7hrs, whether it's 1 or all 4 injectors, and that's more like $1000, new injectors run $350-$395 each.
