fuel gauge
i filled my fuel tank up the other day and it is reading full, but when i was on a back road with lots of turns. whenever i went around a right hand turn my fuel gauge will go all the way to empty and the fuel light will turn on. then after i get going straight again for about 5-10seconds it will spring back saying its full again and the light will turn off. then it will do it again aroung the next right hand corner. nothing happens to the engine it is still running fine and is not running out of fuel. and there are no codes. it makes me think like the fuel sending unit is bad but why will it do it only then the tank is topped off, but normal driving it works just fine. has anyone else had this problem?

If i'm not mistaking the sending unit is a variable resistor, and if that resistor has a missing link somewhere then you will have improper indication when the fuel level reads at that point. Going around a right hand turn with the tank topped off might send the measuring arm past the reading range of the resistor and cause your empty indication, and the 5 to 10second delay for straightening up is just the time it takes for the measuring arm to come back inside the resistors range. Hope that makes sence to you.

On my gasser Silverado 1500, the gas guage would show all different levels in my tank... I just had to keep up with my milage between fillups to know when to add gas... I just ignored it and reset my odometer each fillup... Mine could have been a whole other problem, but thought id share anyways...

My 2003 will show "e", & the light on if I fill-it-up while running. I bisconnected the batteries for a while & all was well. This time I had an eighth-of-a-tank, killed the truck, put $40.00 in fuel in the rear & 15 miles down the road she went to empty, & the light came on. The next day I left for work, heard the fuel pump running, & ran out of fuel. I had nearly a full rear tank full. I called Will at Chevrolet, and no recalls are current & no problem-solving fixes. As of now I still show an empty tank and have no idea how much fuel I have. I do have an hour drive to work....& that sucks.
I just got p'd-off and kicked the crap-out-of the rear tank just to appease myself. I turned the key & my gauge was working!!! Apparently the float in the rear tank sticks on empty or in tight, or lose corners. I'm just glad mine started working...TRY IT, YA'LL
