Default hard starting duramax

Does Duramax have a crank shaft position sensor?
If so... would the shaft position sensor be used for timing?
Wouldn't the motor run badly if position was out or faulty?

yes it does, and a camshaft pos sensor too.

It can run badly if its bad or not run at all

As mentioned in my first post... running badly is not the problem.
Hard starting is and everything suggested so far checks out OK just as motoxwes does.
Any thoughts anyone?
