Replacing Duramax LB7 Injectors 01-04 tips and hints
#141
*2500 HD, the time you've taken to post this thread with the helpful picture is greatly appreciated. The fact that it has been on going for three years tells the story. I kept your post close by on the lap top during my first attempt at this project.*
* * Our Truck is an '02 crew cab Chevy 4x4 *DRW 3500 with a little over 100k on it. This truck has always been good to my family as we use it primarily to vacation at the river and or the desert here in Calif. . I had the Edge on it but removed it when the truck developed a periodic miss. That went away.*
* * The initial reason for doing this was two-part. One was the annoying smoke at idle, and the second was the three gallons of diesel fuel in my engine oil. It was pushing diesel fuel diluted*motor oil out the vent of the engine and made a huge mess all down the side of my truck, boat, inside the boat interior(white)and on my buddies windshield. It never showed any codes and always ran perfect
* * The whole process went as you had stated. I found that the bolts that hold the fuel return lines to the injector on the passenger side where loose. ( the side the dealer warranted *the injectors in 07). The diesel fuel sloshing around in the engine made for a very clean engine to work on internally.*
* * On the drivers side, the problem I noticed was , the cups came out with the injectors on the second and third cylinders and a potion of the o-ring that is between the cup and the injector was pushed out(what is going on here?). There was some burnt oil between the cup Uand the injector and it made it very difficult to separate the two. *Is it safe to say that these two injectors where the bad ones? Or does this have nothing to do with the injectors performance? The other six injectors looked to be in great shape * ( externally ).
* *Here is the part that might
make some leery, I chose to take one for the team and go with refurbished injectors. At a little more than 800 bucks for 8 and a 90 day warranty I thought it would be worth it to me to give it a shot. At the same time, deliver some feed back on a different choice. I will be done with the assembly today and will give it a test run.*
* * Thanks again HD for your inspirational post. I hope this contributes some help in return.*

Bocsh remain injectors are fine, just make sure they are from a reliable source, if the price sounds too good to be true its because it is.
I buy mine from the dealer, but I do get a discount from them.

Ok every thing was going smooth and then I went over to the drivers side taking out the bolts for the upper valve cover and I stripped a couple of the back hard to get bolts out on the top do you have any suggestions on how to get the out. I cant really grab them with a vise grips . there are also two small alum tubes near the fire wall is there a easy way to move them they are making it hard to get to the back bolts.
Thank you for any help!!!!!!!!!!!
