What is the average life of stock injectors

2500HD

Great write-up & pics.
I recently had all my injectors replaced. Wish I had read this before spending the money to replace them. I know now, that I could have done this myself.
My question is, how long before I need to do them again?
Had mine replaced at 140k along with FPR @ $4,200

Thanks

there is no really set date for the injectors, there are any lb7 owners who have never heard on an injector problem

Injector replacement

About how long would you say this project took you from start to fin? or if anyone knows how long it'd take the avg. Joe? p.s. Nice pics. great over view of the project.

give yourself the weekend to tackle the job

I've got a buddy that has done this a few times with his dmax(s) and he says it's not too big a deal... mostly takes time pulling stuff off the motor to get to them... I'm thinking of tackling mine (with his help of course) and upgrading them while i'm in there - prolly some larger ones...

As i've said before, nice right-up 2500HD! :rocking:

yup, just take your time and don't get discouraged :)

First, thank you for this thread, I can now replace all 8 injectors for what the dealership wanted for replacing 2.

I have collected all the tools and a bead blaster, found an injector replacement kit that is supposed to have all the gaskets, o-rings, and sealant needed for $195. The only thing I am still waffling over is the injectors themselves. I made it to 160,000 miles before mine started going bad, but I can't find anything definative on injector upgrades. I found one company (MA) that says their injectors have a chrome plated ball and seat and an "updated" body that resists internal cracking.

Is there an improved injector that does not suffer from the cracking the original injectors were known for?

And if there is, is there a source for them other than dealerships?

And thanks again 2500HeavyDuty, until I found your thread, everything I heard was that you needed special tools and couldn't do it yourself. I am going to smile every time I pass the dealership now.

The newer injectors have chrome balls and hardened seats which helps with the high return rate issues caused by eroded ball seats. But they still crack.

They arent bad to replace, however many of us do sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many of them we forget to go back to reality. It is a big task and if you dont feel comfortable doing it, dont.

Once you do it 1000 times you can do it much faster and remove a lot less parts.

Only use bosch remans, others such as pensacola have proven to be bad.

To pop the injectors out of the cups i stick a big punch in the holdown where the bolt goes. It does the same thing as the factory tool.
