i was doing a 4wd launch and thought i heard something pop. driving to work i was hearing a clanging noise from the driver side tire. got to work and pulled back the outer housing and the bearings and pieces of metal fell out. i know a guy at the dealership and he said he can get me the whole shaft with the bearings for $560.is this a good deal. and can i install this myself without having any "special" tools? is it safe to still drive my truck?

 

$560? good deal? maybe for him. it looks like re-manned ones from Oreilly Auto Parts run about $59.99 plus the core charge......

 

$560 should be fore the wheel hubs and CV axles both.. right? and installed.. for parts and labor for both sides..

 

pull the dust brass dust cap off on the front axle and theres a 36mm nut holding half of your cv axle. and theres 6 bolts holding the other half of it to the front diff. it helps to but it in 4wd when working on them parts to keep them from spinning if you dont have any impact tools.

tigheten the 6 bolts on the flange to 58 lb/ft and the axle hub nit to 155 lb/ft

 

nah i think its just for one w/ no labor. it comes with that wheel bearing and the drum looking thing that goes inside the hub. thats whats supposed to be the expensive part. idk, no vendors have pmed a price. yall know where to look for one?

 

Oreillys/autozone/napa/pep boys.. just about any parts store can get those pieces..

 

Easy to change. You can buy them with lifetime warranty for under a hundred bucks.

 

the hub bearings can be expensive sometimes. u just need the cv

 

the actual shaft seems to be ok, its the bearing on ther outer end. is this what yall are calling the hub bearing?

 

the hub bearing is what the wheel bolts onto, its attached to the spindle with 4 15mm bolts and the cv shaft has splines that goes into it
