New to Duramax and Allison, need advice please
Well, I finally found a 2001 Duramax. It has 171K on the engine. I bought it at an auction and am attempting to find out who owned it so I could get some history on what has been done to it previously. Absent of that information, what would be the first things you would do to it? I am sorta scared of chipping it, I guess I don't know the first thing about how chipping will affect the longevity of the motor. Looking for the biggest bang for the buck. We will be using it to haul our 28 foot fifth wheel. We live in Colorado, so we do have some mountain passes to keep in consideration.
On the tranny, I am thinking about getting it power flushed but would like some advice in this area. Synthetic fluid? Amsoil? Filters?
Thank you

For your tranny use the Synthetic Transynd that is recommended. I am not sure it needs a power flush.
I would go through and look for leaks, check and fill and low fluids and if they look dirty or milky, replace them. A little bit of care can go a long ways.
Also change your fuel filters if you do not know the last time they have been changed. A dealer "might" be able to get data on service if it was done through a GM Dealer.
