jake brake for 80s chevy military truck
How hard is it to instal a jack brake in a 80s chevy military truck. How much will it cost. what will have to be done to make it work. Is it worth the time to install. Will it help stop a 30 to 40 ft goose neck easier with a load on the trailer. what will have to be done to the 6.2 detroit motor with a jake brake put in it.

Do you mean an exhaust brake? a jake brake use engine components that a 6.2 lacks and a exhaust brake on the same engine would be a bad idea due too the higher EGTs it would wear out the engine 100 times faster if its tow braking that you are concerned with a good brake controler and a good set of trailer brakes would out weigh the benifits of an exhaust brake.

Its a farm truck so from using it to haul seed, to spray, to hauling skid loaders and tractors is what it hauls. In the fall it pulls 2 wagons out of the field loaded is about 30000 lbs with no pin weight. the rear brakes on these trucks are huge, so stopping power generally is pretty good(if they are adjusted properly and brake booster is good). the rear axle has a ride height sensor/valve which proportions the braking power of the rear axle, which when there is about 3500lbs in the back is pretty nice. The truck will handle quite a bit, just use caution when hauling unfamilliar loads.
