Default straight piping a 6.5

I have a 2000 chevy 3500 i have taken the muffler out but left the cat. The sound is not much different just a little lower tone. If i took the cat out toom would it get louder? Would i have any problems if i took it out? any codes? Any help will be greatly appreciated

It shouldn't throw any codes. It might be a little louder with out the cat. I have strait piped every 6.5 I ever had.

No you would not get anymore smoke if you removed it only adding more fuel would give you more smoke which would equal wasted fuel and with fuel pices as high as they are its not a bright idea

I just put 5" semi exhaust on my 96 6.5 yesturday. It sounds really nice. I just put it in front of the rear tire. its really deep. The turbo keeps it quiet though. Its not really that loud, its just really throaty. It helped my over heating problem too since it lowered my egts. As for smoke, mine smokes a little more since it doesnt get caught in the cat or the muffler. but i do have more soot in the pipe. I recommend putting 4" on though. I had to do some make shift reducer to go in between the heat shield and that bigger cross member. Youll be very happy with your results. I love mine.
