crank pulley rattle

crank pulley rattle
So the 6.5 developed an odd intermittent rattle here a few weeks back.
I assumed it was a pulley of some sort and have since pulled th ebelt and checked em all.
and it'd seem there is issues in the crank pulley or harmonic balancer. i can take and turn the crank pulley about 1/8th of a turn before I hear a metal on metal sound and it stops.
Wondering if it's the pulley itself, or it the balancer is fucked.
I'm hoping its the pulley, I don't wanna try a balancer replacement.

I dunno what kind I have. 95, S vin engine.
just crawled under and checked.
there is a large rubber ring on the inside backside of the pulley that i can see, and that rubber is cracked/shot at the very least.
the balancer action is smooth, there isn't a real wobble there (not that you need much of one at 2,000rpm and 22:1 compression). I don't see much damage to the rubber on the balancer that i can tell either, but that is while I'm on my back looking up at it, so I won't say it's a perfect look.
from what I can see the pulley is 4 bolts off the front side and it should slide off. is it really that easy? nothing on this frickin engine is that easy.
you'd think after helicoiling the starter bolts when they stripped right out of the block, a simple pulley swap wouldn't be foreign to me. . .
