dreaded DTC 36. means slow travel in the injection cylinder
most common is low lubricity of fuel. try some diesel kleen or slick diesel.
if that doesnt work: try the PMD

if not that, maybe the IP hope this helps

Thanks for the reply, ill try some of that diesel lube. The code went away after i had posted this thread. but this morning when driving to work while motor was still cool, it was a little hesitant on the throttle. When warmed up it was fine.

yeah like a sputter. code light came on truck still running good for like 20min then when i went to gun it it sputtered, then i was like oh crap not again so i pulled into a gas station. i let it cool down and thats when i checked out the code. i put some new fuel in cause i was low. then had no problem since, except in the mornings. yeah its probably my pdm i have like three of them that i switch off. when one goes out i use another but im able to reuse that same one again later on .. i did like you said about the diesel kleen, i can feel alittle difference in performance today especially when hitting 11lbs boost.

oh yeah one more thing, what should i be running in oil pressure? at idle, at accelerating and cold and warm motor?

cold idle its alittle over 40, cold accelerating it alittle over that BUT
warm idle its under 40, like 30 something but accelerating its 40

im second guessing myself cause i had the truck for 8months now and i cant remember if it was always like that.. i normally pay attention to that stuff i just forgot i guess.

I don't know where some of this stuff comes from sometimes......

Dtc 36 is usually a pmd on the way out.

In a nutshell; Response time too long means the PCM is not getting a proper feedback signal from the pmd. The PCM "listens" for the "noise" signal the pmd makes when it shuts off the injector pulse to verify the timing event was correct for the crank angle degrees (commonly referred to as "pulse width").

When the pmd is acting up, this signal is the first to go.

What is happening is the PCM is commanding the injection event to th pmd, the pmd is not driving the fuel solenoid because it is breaking down or unresponsive, the truck "stutters" because there was no injection event, because the pmd did not fire the fuel solenoid there is no feedback "noise" for the PCM to "see" to confirm the injection event happened as commanded. The PCM sets the dtc 36 because it had too wait too long for the injection event feedback signal because the pmd never initiated it in the first place.

Hense; response time too long.

Long story short, the pmd is probably on the way out.

A failing ip can set the fault but that's usually because the steeper motor or fuel solenoid is failing.

Pour whatever you want in the tank, it won't fix a dtc 36.....

thanks for the reply great white. yeah im pretty sure now its the pmd. truck started this morning and died shortly after, and wont start back up, almost did though. i guess all my used pmd's are all used up now . ill keep an update on things are going.

ok bought another pdm(reman from advanced auto) and it doesnt start.. i did tried the the wire from the postive side of battery to the g port on the obd1 plugin to turn the lift pump on to force fuel through but no start. i did that trick before when i changed the full shutoff selonoid and it started up. i now have no codes showing. IP is couple years old and its a reman.. do you think it could of gone bad?? do i test it by taking off injector line??

ok so the lift pump is pushing fuel to the fuel filter but i can't check the T handle to see if fuel is coming out from there unless truck is running.

T handle is just the filter water drain.

All that tells yo is if the lift pump is running and how much GPM it's pumping.

If you want to verify the pump is still good, jump it like you did before and crack open the water drain valve...have a bucket under it or you may pump fuel all over the ground.

Loosen a line on one of the injectors and crank the engine to see if your getting fuel to that point. Only loosen it, don't disconnect it.

2000-ish psi out of an unconnected line can make one heck of a mess of things.

If you've got no fuel at the injectors and the lift pump is working, you have an IP problem.

First thing I would check in no fuel from the IP would be the fuel shut off solenoid....

no fuel getting to injectors.. so it could be the IP, PDM, or full shutoff selenoid. lift pump works. soooo.. any more ideas.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

full shutoff solenoid WORKS.. if you turn the key on to acc you can feel it clicking up. so this means its either the pdm or ip... i try to check everything i can before i have to buy something expensive and it not be the problem..

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

what if when the full shutoff solenoid went bad and air got sucked into the fuel lines after the fuel filter.. that could cause no fuel getting to the the injectors right? or would the lift pump still keep fuel going even after the solenoid went out? when i replaced the solenoid i had to jump start the lift pump and crank the motor up for it to start.
