I don't think the PO rebuilt it. I believe he bought the engine as is and put his injection pump on it.

I have thought that the cam could 180 out.... BUT...

When the crank is in position for the #1 cylinder to be at top dead center, the #6 piston is also at TDC, right?

With that being true, lets assume the the cam is 180* out. Since the IP gear is correctly timed with the cam gear, then the IP will be firing the #6 injector with the cam set for #6 TDC and with the #6 piston at TDC. So then it would be safe to say that when the engine is turned over to #1 TDC, all parts will be in correct orientation, right????

Hopefully that wasn't too confusing. OH......this thought just crossed my mind..........
I have worked on many SBC's and have seen several different harmonic balancers whereas the timing mark and the woodruff key slot are clocked different....

Is this possible with this engine? Are there different harmonic balancers?

Thanks

On the HMMVs I work on there are two holes for the injector pump gear one oval and one round from your pics the pin looks to be in the round hole. Like I said I dont now if the same applies for you truck just some I noticed. Is it smokeing at all when you crack it over. Even when my cummins was of timing and wouldnt start it still smoked

i have already put that back together but i dont remember seeing an oval hole. it does smoke when turning over. i decided to clean of the flanges where the IP timing marks are and found the pump mark to be about 1/2 inch to the drivers side of the block mark. could that be far enough out to prevent it from starting?

i loosened and turned the IP to bring the marks closer together. the IP mark is now about one lines width to the drivers side of the mounting flange mark. i acts like it wants to start and the aerosol lubricant (acting as ether) helps it kick off, but it still doesnt fire long enough to call it starting. i'm still lost as to what to do...... any help is appreciated.

ive given up!!!! i'm taking it the a dealership here in town tomorrow morning..... can't wait to here the news.....
