6.5 L Assembly - Elite Newbie questions
Hello all!
After a minor break (ok, three years) from my project, I have now decided to grab the bull by its ***** and assemble my 6,5L Diesel (No Turbo).
But since I havent glanced at the thing since 2009, there are things I have forgotten.
Like where certain parts are suppose to fit, and even what the heck some parts actually is?
I have the Chilton book, but can't find the info (not my native language).
Some parts may come from two other cylinder heads I bought while thinking my original was defect (they werent, of course) so some parts might come from a different head/set up.
Picture 1:
When remounting the vacuum pump assembly, I get a 8-10 mm gap between the mount and the head. When mounting the engine lifting eye, I still have a 4-5 mm gap, and if I tighten it the wheels come out of balance for the belt. Am I missing some part that is suppose to go there?
Picture 2:
Can't find the spot for it?
Picture 3:
Where are these lines suppose to go? (I need new ones though, these are broken.
...And yes, I did it)
Picture 4:
These looks like oil lines? Between what two spots is it suppose to go?
Picture 5:
What are these parts? nr 3 fits over the water outlets in the heads, but it might come from another head that had a turbo? I have already mounted the water pump and its pipe on the front of the engine.
Picture 6: These are the two outlets that aren't blocked so far,
do I need these for anything or should I just block them?
I know these might be some of the most stupid questions you've heard.
But I am one of these "Hey, this could be a great project!" kind of guy.
And there are always nice new projects to find. Gotta start finish them off now.
...And here I am.
Would be extremely greatful for anyone that answers these questions.
Take Care!

Dunno, maybe because it's a van but truck 6.5's mount the vac pump on the passenger side lower bracket. At least, it does on OBDII trucks....

Turbo oil drain tube.
Picture 3:

Dunno, looks like they could be transmission cooler lines......
Picture 4:

Dunno, looks like more "van" oddities.....vans have a lot of unique parts.

#1 looks like a heat shield of some sort, #2 looks like it may be an air cleaner adapter for a NA engine, #3 looks like some sort of restrictor or adapter for the head cooling passages, #4 looks like a cable bracket of somesort (IE: throttle, 700r4 TV cable, etc)
Picture 6: These are the two outlets that aren't blocked so far,

There are plates blocking them off on a gmt400 installation. They're water passages so you can use the heads on left or right IIRC...

Label stuff next time as you take them off.

Help with some
I'm in process of replacing head gaskets after hoping that was the only problem and have seen most of what you have. I will look for rest later.
#1 should have bracket for alternator /power steering mounting
#2 is the turbo oil return line that the non flanged end woud be attached below front right side head, if no turbo you will need to plug or install "Blank" flange cover on block.
#3 looks like fuel pump return and injector return lines.
#4 bracket mount for injector lines should go on double Studded valve cover bolts, hold bolt in place with one wrench and tighten nut otherwise you will crush valve cover gasket.
Did your engine have 2 seperate injector return lines?
#5-1 should be right side injector line bracket.
#6 front holes go to thermostat assembly, rear holes get Blank covers.
I hope that helps some.
