Default Ultragauge

Has anybody put one of these in their 6.5? Their website says compatibility issues with our trucks is "unconfirmed". Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

A better question would be what you want it to do?

Most of these "gauges" are very limited when it comes to a 6.5 TD.

They are OBDII, but the amount of PID's (what a sensor parameter is called in OBDII) in the datastream is pretty small.

For example:

instant mpg, average mpg and DTE won't work on any of the 6.5 trucks because there is no "fuel quantity" input into the data stream. Hence; the "gauge" cannot calculate these parameters.

There are many more that don't work....

Hmm...MPG's is actually what I was looking to monitor . I've been doing it the old fashioned way and I'm not terribly convinced that my #'s are correct....

Ah, you're SOL then.

For any of the monitors that claim mpg calculations.

You're stuck with "handraulically" doing the calculations.

Won't do RPM either IIRC.

They can read things like APP (throttle) position, IAT, ECT, % load, etc.....and work any gauge they create that uses those PID's.

The 6.5 TD is pretty early OBDII stuff, having come online right away in 96 and fading from view in 1998 (couple 99-2001 models rolling around, but very few comparatively), it's quite limited compared to the parameters a lot of the newer vehicles monitor...

to see what you get a gallon. run the truck empty. 0 out the odometer, put a gallon in the truck. drive around until it goes empty. (keep the 5 gallon tank in your bed)

I'll just say "it's not a good idea to do it that way" and leave it at that.....
