Thanks for the pics. I have the engine in the back of my truck. I am on my way to get the block checked out. It is a 599 block. I am thinking it would be a better idea to go with an optimizer block rather than trust the old block. I would rather do it right the first time. It is shity that the motor was pulled when I bought the truck. You guys have been really helpfull. What a great site for the out cast 6.5 lovers.

Keep in mind an optimizer isn't going to come cheap if you're on a budget.

Anywhere from 5,000-7,000 brand new and around 2,000+ for a naturally aspirated 6.2 optimizer military "takeout"...

Hey logger, I'm withn you...looking for a new Optimizer 6500 - turbo version!!!
If you find anything, please let me know. Seems most folks aren't aware of the versions (NA or Turbo). There is a difference in precups, oil pump, and one other item I can't remember at the moment.

Turbo's have the oil squirters in the bearings, most NA optimizers have bearings without the oil squirts, the pistons crowns are anodized on the turbo version....then there's the obvious differences for the center mount turbo the hmmwv's came with (mounts, oil feed and return, etc). Might be a few other bits and bobs I'm forgetting.

You can walk into your friendly neighborhood GM parts department and order up a genuine GEP 6.5 Turbo Diesel shipped right to you with a 3 year warranty. Get ready to dig deep into that wallet though.

Now, if you're talking difference between the GEP Optimizer and the original GM "6.anchors", the list becomes verrrry long......

Default Best bang for the $

Don't know which way you went on your decision but
I went thru a lot of grief and misery before making my decision!

I finally settled with US Engine Production DBA International Diesel Ltd
155 RAYNOR AVE
RONKONKOMA, NY 11779

They have been building & rebuilding engines for the DoD a number of years.

My engine is a 2006 production '506 block that is bored .020 over. I requested a reman for several reasons - one being that it is seasoned - another is price.
Anyways, I got a turbo version long block for under $4K. Forged crank included.
Diamond precups, anodized pistons, whatever is needed to run a turbo setup.
I forgot to ask for my run sheet but they are going to track it down for me!

My 2 cents - If you are buying used from anyone for more than $1000 shipping included, it is a waste of money. Hope all goes well for your project!
