Vac Pump Q
does vacuum pump have any thing to do with the brake system at all. i know i have a bad or failing vac pump, and i also have an abs light/brake issue. i was planning on replacing the vac pump when $$funds$$ warrant, i was just wondering the the problems were at all related...i just wanted a second opinion before bringing to mechanic for brake testing to find the problem because i know that will cost an arm and a leg. any help on the issue would be greatly appreciated...

The vacuum pump supplies vacuum for heater controls and Turbo waste gate. Your power brake assist should be hydraulic boost supplied by power steering pump. You may have a bad wheel speed sensor low brake fluid .check all fuses could be a loss of power to ABS module or bad ABS module. How do the brakes work?

No the vacuum pump has nothing do with brakes
The vacuum pump has nothing do with do with heater controls that all elec. Vacuum controls waste gate egr only waste gate only
But have bad ABS sensor could set ABS light
If you have F motor you can do away with vacuum pump if you put boost gauge and turbo master on

I will stand corrected on the heater controls my mistake. Many of the vehicles nowadays use vacuum to control the mode doors I made a quick response in general reference to what I see from day to day I should know better concidering I drive a GM and always have.just want to help out. See if you can at least get a scan done on your ABS system to find out what codes are in it to start.
good luck

i agree that ABS is pointless and i do like that is is not functioning. however when it comes time for the ol inspection sticker, i want to have the issue resolved so as not to have to pay some mechanic somewhere for what he calls the problem. i will do some research on what fuses or sensors i need to look at and where they are located to start my diagnostic process. any help you or anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

as far as i know there are no sensors.ABS computer work off brake fluid pressure.so check fusees, check the plugs cleanest at ABS computer

OH other thing you can try is rebleed the brakes i have seen air pocket set off the ABS also rear brakes being out adjustment

The abs runs off two sensors, one in each of the front wheel bearings.
Common fault on the sensors in older vehicles is for the wires running up the upper A arm to fatigue and break at the bending point when the wheel is turned. Check your wire at the clamp that attaches it to the arm. There are two thin wires inside a thick rubber sheath. If one or both of the wires are broken, the ABS light will illuminate.
Some have had trouble with the sensors when the unitized bearing is close to the end of it's life. Metal shavings get "stuck" to the magnetic pickup and the sensor can't "see" the tone wheel.
If you don't want to deal with ABS or the light, simply unplug the ABS unit under the hood.
The system defaults to regular braking action and there will be no abs light on in the dash.
