It's a block heater, just keeps the engine warm so's its easier to start in the cold

X2

These are not like the Fords where you can plug them in and have heat when you first them in the morning

I think the Powerstrokes, at least the 7.3 and maybe the 6.0 warm the oil because of the way they deliver fuel. Correct me if I'm wrong.

i think the powerstrokes are coolant heaters as well but i may be wrong as i havent seen the underside of one in a few years. (any oil heaters i have seen have been on or in the pan) you wont notice heat out of the vents right away but your engine will love you if its cold out (like close to freezing or lower). it will warm up a lot quicker too as the heater took the "edge" off.

only thing wrong with pan heater if something goes wrong with could over heat the oil

The reason ford can put heat at first start up after been plug in all night is cause heater system is vacuum so door stay open it nice when put it on defrost when snowing out window be nice clean

yes youre right, unlike the 6.5 the ford motors have heui injectors, so the high pressure from the oil pushes into the injector pushing a piston inside the injector down, thus pushing fuel into the cylinder, so yes if the oil is this the truck will run like $#!+.

..oh wait, isnt that all 6.0s..

The purpose of the block heater is to keep the block warm, not the cabin.

Warm for the block is not the same as warm for pumping heat into the cab.

It's just to take the cold edge off the start.
