94 6.5 running rough after reassembly
i just did headgaskets and a timing chain on the ole 6.5. i got it started but it smoked alot and is running really rough. if i rev it up to about 2k it clears up but it sounds a little off. i marked the ip when i pulled it off and reinstalled everything like i had it. i dont have an aldl cable or access to a scan tech to see if the timing is off. I kinda figure im gonna have to buy a cable or scan tech but is there anything else i can do to check the timing besides that? it could be something other than a timing issue but from what ive read online it kinda points to it.
What led you to swap hg's? The only reason im asking is have you verified Good compression on all cylinders since the hg swap. If you are low on compression on any cylinders you can look at valve lash issue's or ring/piston issues and then move on to timing or fuel issue's. Good luck.
I did new head studs and figured since I was that far I'd go ahead and replace Hgs. The truck ran great before but needed a timing chain so I did a bunch of stuff I'd been puttin off. Compression is good. There doesn't seem to be any lower end or valve issues. That's why I was asking about the ip timing. I'm workin on gettin a cable so I can use that engh program to do the time set and everything.
Are sure you just don't have air in fuel lines and yes after you install IP need to have retime
check all your grounds make sure didn't miss one you can try just bumping the IP a hair see if changes anything

ip was off about an 1/8th inch and i had a split return line on an injector. i guess i overlooked it when i was puttin it back together. it runs alot better but i still gotta check it with a scanner. thanks for the advice.
